2021 Royal Melbourne Show – Woodworking Competition & Exhibition
Each year close to half a million people visit the Melbourne Royal Show and pass through the Arts and Crafts section that also contains the Woodworking Competition and Exhibition.
Exhibition Details
The competition is open to Amateur and Professional Woodworkers alike, so everyone has a chance to get involved, display your work, and even win up to $300 in prize money.
The VWA sponsors 10 categories of woodworking in the RASV annual Crafts competition + the Best in Show award.
There are 9 Categories for entry.
Novice Categories
A Novice is defined as: An exhibitor with no more than two years’ participation in that section and has not placed first in that section in the Art, Craft & Cookery Competition at the Royal Melbourne Show at any time. Must not work professionally in that craft, art form or technique.

Open Categories
The Open category is open to all entrants.
- CRA163 - ARTICLE OF WOODCRAFT - Including traditional solid timber, jointed carpentry and joinery. Made with hand or power tools.
- CRA164 - ARTICLE OF WOODCRAFT - Decorated with metal and/or other materials.
- CRA165 - BOX MAKING
- CRA167 - WOODCARVING OTHER
- CRA168 - WOOD TURNING
Woodcarving Category
There is also a Woodcarving category:
- CRA166 - HERBERT GMEHLING MEMORIAL AWARD - WOODCARVING THREE-DIMENSIONAL/SCULPTURAL
Best in Show award
Lastly, the 10th category we sponsor is the that also wins an additional $250 prize money. The category that the winning entry is assigned to is:

Important Dates

Prizes
The prize for each category is $50 cash plus 1 year VWA membership.
Entry Sizes
NOTE: Size of any exhibit not to exceed 76cm x 122cm at base. Please indicate approximate size of exhibit on entry form. Must be able to be easily handled by one or two people. Hanging devices required (where appropriate)
Cost
$15 per item entered.
Note: The VWA is covering the entry costs of the first 20 entrants to this year’s exhibition. This process is managed by the RASV. The entry fee will be refunded if you are one of the first 20 entrants.
Entry Process
The Woodworking Competition is in the Woodcraft category of the Craft section of the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria's (RASV) Art, Craft & Cookery competition.
It's $15 to enter, however the first 20 entrants who submit a piece will have their entry fee refunded - this is subsidised by the VWA and managed by the RASV.
