VWA Meets / 2023

Meet#58 – May Members Meeting.

For our May meeting, VWA Secretary and carver extraordinaire Pip Haydon will give a demonstration of the ancient art of carving spoons from both green and dry timber. As Robert Howard has said: ‘spoons are to carving what chairs are to furniture’.

Pip started spoon carving as a way to practise woodworking at home with minimal tools. A visit to The Lost Trades fair in 2014 introduced her to ‘greenwood’ spoon carving. She says ‘It’s a wonderful process that uses mostly an axe, a small straight carving knife and a hooked hollowing knife.’

WHERE:

Since this will be at a private address in Coburg, please register your interest in attending by emailing secretary@vwa.org.au including a contact phone number. We’ll then send you the details.
