Machine Room Booking

VWA members can book a place to use the machine room for timber machining on the first Sunday of every month from 1.00 – 4.00pm. The cost is $30 per hour.

Machining is supervised by long standing woodworker and respected teacher Carl Lutz.

Members must have previous experience in using machinery and/or have undertaken at least one term of a Victorian School of Woodwork class or equivalent. Current students can also book the machine room at this time, but the classroom will not be available.

Conditions & Requirements
  • Being a current member of the VWA,
  • Being able to demonstrate safe and knowledgeable use of the machinery. If you are seen to be using the machinery in an unsafe manner or are obviously inexperienced, then you will be required to leave without argument or discussion.
  • All recycled timber must have thoroughly clean surfaces (e.g. paint) and certified as metal free from a timber yard. Receipt of purchase of timber, or purchase of metal scanning services, is required for recycled timber.
  • You must bring your timber, tools, eye protection, hearing protection, dust protection, and leave with the same. There is no capacity to store your timber or equipment in the workshop.
Notes

The supervisor is present to monitor your safe use of the equipment – not to train you on how to use the equipment or act as a second pair of hands for you to move heavy timber around. You are expected to be able to carry out all your activity independently.

I confirm I have previous experience in using machinery and/or have undertaken at least one term of a woodwork class
