Wood Design Centre Upgrades
Over the past months, a couple of our Artists in Residence have been working on a proposal to upgrade a few of the spaces in the Wood Design Centre to create more functional, welcoming and collaborative spaces. These upgrades will benefit the Association by assisting in elevating the image to visitors and members, and providing more usable space for both Artists in Residence and students at the School of Woodcraft. After our rebrand and new website launch, this update is the next step in a new generation of the Association, with the Wood Design Centre remaining as the hub for the Association.
The entrance landing at the VWA site has been flagged as an area requiring improvement, with more order in the space identified as the key to creating an improved space that is better used, understood and maintained.
Our Artists in Residence Alexsandra Pontonio and Raven Mahon have proposed the updates and will be working on them over the next few months. See the first updates on the changes below!
The bins rack is reused shelving from the back room that creates a dedicated space for set project material and bin storage. The vertical storage rack has been completed and the CNC and vacuum press have been moved to their new permanent homes with greater accessibility and lighting. And the front sheet storage rack has been disassembled and the materials reused to modify the secondary one to incorporate a second level (pictured). The remaining work will involve cladding the rack and building out cubbies, bench seating, coat and bike hooks. Alex and I plan to have it to this stage by early Jan.
