In this month’s Community News, we’re sharing two special opportunities for those on the lookout for pre-loved woodworking machines and quality timber. Some remarkable Redwood burl slabs, plus a selection of Birdseye and Ironbark available further down the page.

1- Jointer, drill press, wood lathe and timber slabs for sale

We’ve recently been approached by someone wishing to find a new home for a set of woodworking machines that belonged to their late father. He was a skilled carpenter who later moved into woodturning and ran a stair-making business, turning all his own posts. After retiring, he set up his home garage with these machines and used them to craft a range of pieces, including beautiful turned bowls and tables made from redwood burl slabs.

His woodworking came to an end after he suffered a stroke, and following his passing the machines were moved to the family home, where they have been stored for the past eight years. The equipment is estimated to be around 15 years old and remains in very good condition, having seen only limited use.

The family, now in possession of the machines, would love to see them go to someone who will use and appreciate them.

2- Rare East Gippsland Timbers for Sale

Simon Mekken, based in East Gippsland, has uncovered some beautiful and rare timbers during a recent shed clean-out and is offering them for sale as a single lot.

Available timber:
Birdseye (East Gippsland Hardwood)

• 1 @ 175mm wide × 40mm thick
• 2 @ 240mm wide × 40mm thick
• 1 @ 280mm wide × 40mm thick
• 1 @ 300mm wide × 40mm thick
• 1 @ 310mm wide × 40mm thick
• 1 @ 335mm wide × 40mm thick
  (average length: 3.8m)

Ironbark (old bridge beams)

• 4 pieces @ 250mm wide × 38mm thick, over 2.0m long
• 2 smaller offcuts

Simon is asking $3,500 (cash) for the full lot (not splitting pieces).
Freight is not included.

These timbers are becoming increasingly hard to find, and Simon has shared an image of a tallboy made from similar Birdseye hardwood to show its stunning figure and finish.
