VWA Artists in Residence Update
Brandon Harrison
Most recently I’ve been working on a few cabinets for a local cafe for the display of their bakery items and breads, and I’ve been prototyping a bench seat for an upcoming exhibition.

I am continuing my work experimenting and producing work using segmented circles. This time around the scale is a lot larger. The aim is to turn a bowl on the lathe at the maximum diameter that the lathe allows.

I’ve been working up some samples trying to achieve strength utilising the least amount of material, similar to a truss system.
These images shows a sample using 2 dowels elements connected to a central piece; the result being structurally sound and visually light piece. I’m not certain about how this fits directly into a furniture piece just yet but the process has been interesting so far.
